I was told that Mistborn is more or less YA fantasy, so I really wasn’t expecting the super dark themes and gore, but to be honest that made the experience much more realistic and gritty in some ways, so I’m still happy (though I feel that Mistborn doesn’t neccesarily classify as YA fantasy exactly, more of a middle ground between adult and YA).
